WELCOME TO MY WORLD
The great reporter and writer Charles Kuralt, who was born and raised in North Carolina, noted in his book, North Carolina is My Home, that “If a man is from the Blue Ridge Mountains, he will tell you." Well as I greet you, I am proud to say, I am from, and hopefully of, these beautiful mountains.

I am fortunate to live between the mountain towns of Boone, home of Appalachian State University, and Blowing Rock, North Carolina. Our house sets around 4000 feet above sea level and it is cool in the summer but a bit chilly in the winter. A short drive from the house is the wonderful hiking trails of Cone Park. These nearly 30 miles of trails connect with others that wander throughout the area and region. I spend as much time as possible on these trails with friends and dogs meandering through the beauty of these hills. It just feels right to be walking surrounded with the people you love.

I wish you happiness in your neck-of-the-woods and hope if you are ever in the Boone area, to look us up or give a call. Perhaps we can spend a few hours hiking up a mountain and afterwards we can break some bread together.
AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT
Dr. Marvin Berkowitz
Please visit the book section above to view the insightful book by Dr. Marvin Berkowitz. On this page you will learn more about him but from my perspective, Marvin Berkowitz represents all that is great about human beings especially his love of children and the people who teach them. You Can’t Teach Through a Rat, besides being a great title, is one of the most insightful books you will ever read concerning the true goal of education – to help our children and ourselves to become smart and good people.
